Have you ever been on your way to a sunny holiday and suddenly realised you’ve left your heating on full blast? Or been on your way back from work and wanted a warm home for your return?
What is a Smart Thermostat?
Digital heating is now here. Smart thermostats allow you to control the temperature of a room using a dial or control panel, via a quick click on your mobile device. You are now able to control your heating wherever you are in the world – not only allowing you to heat your home more efficiently, but also getting a better understanding of your energy usage.
How Smart Thermostats Work
A typical thermostat allows you to control the temperature of your home using a standard fixed thermostat and control panel. Instead, Smart thermostats work wirelessly. One component is plugged directly into your boiler, which then connects via WiFi to the main thermostat control. By downloading the app on your mobile phone, tablet or desktop computer, you can then connect to the main control remotely.
Smart thermostats are designed to work with most boiler types, including system boilers and combination (combi) boilers.
More advanced thermostats can also offer a learning schedule, which adjusts to your desired temperature if it detects you are on your usual route home, or if your device is in the house.
Additionally, the smart thermostats enable you to track all energy usage information on your mobile device, giving you greater visibility and control over what you are using and how much you are spending. Which means that smart thermostats are also designed to save you money by reducing your energy bill.
At LS1, we can install a variety of leading smart systems including Nest, Hive, Worcester Bosch EasyControl and Honeywell evohome. Find out more about our boiler installation services or get a free, instant quote now.
Benefits of a Smart Thermostat
- Greater flexibility
- No need for planning ahead
- More control – wherever you are in the world!
- Insight into your energy useage
- Improved energy efficiency
- Money savings!
There are many benefits of installing a smart heating system into your home. In particular, if you have a busy schedule, it allows you to control your heating wherever you are in the world. For example, if you’re running late home from a meeting or event and don’t want to heat an empty house, or if you are tucked up in bed freezing cold and don’t want to move – there is no need to get up and go to the fixed thermostat!
Furthermore, Smart Thermostats can help increase the efficiency of your energy by giving you more control and more insight into your usage. This does not mean they remove the need to switch energy suppliers or installing a new boiler if you bills are going through the roof, but it means you can get a better insight into why they are so high, and you can adjust your preferences and behaviour to make some savings.
So, all in all, we would really recommend switching to a Smart Heating System but remember that they will not eliminate the need to install a new boiler or switch energy providers if your boiler is consistently breaking or your bills are through the roof.
